To update Sub Phatty firmware: Download the Sysex Tool software here: (or, use your favourite sysex sending utility if you have one) http://www.elektron.se/sites/default/files/products/files/Elektron_C6_OSX_v1.4E.dmg (C6 for Mac) http://www.elektron.se/sites/default/files/products/files/Elektron_C6_Windows_v1.4F.zip (C6 for Windows) -- thanks to Elektron for this app. :) IMPORTANT! -- DO NOT use a USB hub when performing this update. The recommended way to do it is to connect a short, good-condition USB cable directly from your computer to the Sub Phatty. You can also use standard (DIN) MIDI to perform the update; if so, make sure your MIDI interface has the latest drivers installed. Because we can't make any guarantees about your 3rd-party MIDI interface, we recommend USB. EQUALLY IMPORTANT -- make sure the power to the Sub PHatty is secure and cannot be unplugged by accident, by a roommate or the family dog, before you start the update process. Same for the USB cable. Both of these examples (roommate, dog) have actually happened, so please be careful. TROUBLE SHOOTING: - If during the transfer (step 10) the MIDI LED begins to blink much faster than the LFO LED, this means that the transfer has failed. - If the update is interrupted or fails to complete for any reason, just restart your Sub Phatty (turn the power off and back on) and send the firmware file again. Verify your Sysex-sending settings before trying again. - If you turn on the Sub Phatty and only the LFO LED is blinking slowly, with no other activity on the unit, this means the Sub Phatty bootloader is waiting for a successful firmware update. Make sure you're using good cables and your software is set up correctly, and send the firmware file again. NOW, THE UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS: 1) On the Sub Phatty control panel, press and hold the PITCH AMT and HARD SYNC buttons at the same time. 2) While holding the PITCH AMT and HARD SYNC buttons, press the ACTIVATE PANEL button two times (double-tap). 3) You should see the MIDI LED (top left) blink on and off three times, slowly. 4) After this, the LFO LED (top right) will start to blink on and off regularly, indicating the unit is ready to receive new firmware. The PITCH AMT, HARD SYNC, and ACTIVATE PANEL buttons also blink on/off. 5) Connect a USB cable from the Sub Phatty directly to your computer -- NOT through a USB hub. 6) Open the C6 Sysex Tool software. 7) Select Sub Phatty as your MIDI output device from the Config tab 8) *IMPORTANT* in the C6 Preferences, "Misc Settings" section, set Turbo Limit to x1. 9) Click the Load button to open the Sub Phatty firmware file; select the file and click Open. As of 2 August 2013, the most recent Sub Phatty firmware is "SubPhatty_v239_1_4_0.syx" 10) Click the Send button to send the new Sub Phatty firmware sysex file. You should see the MIDI LED blinking on and off slowly while the file is being transferred. DO NOT CLICK THE TURBO BUTTON or the update will fail. In fact, don't click anything. Just wait. When the firmware update is complete, the Sub Phatty will restart automatically. After successful restart, you must turn the power to the Sub Phatty off and then on again, to complete the update. NOTE: the Sub Phatty Global settings, such as MIDI channel and Knob Mode, are reset to default values after a firmware update. If you have set up custom global settings, you'll need to set them again. This is easy to do using the Sub Phatty Editor software; global settings are found on the editor Preferences page. ### END OF UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS ### Changes in Sub Phatty firmware v1.4.0 (changes since v1.0.0): - Added "output all parameter values as MIDI CC" using NRPN 0, value 127 (send CC99 value 0, CC6 value 127 to activate) - Responds to MIDI KB Octave CC (CC# 89) - Assigned MIDI CC# 117 = Filter EG Fast Decay; CC# 118 = Amp EG Fast Decay. Can also adjust these parameters in Shift Mode. - Assigned MIDI CC# 95 to Activate Panel button. (0-63 = Off, 64-127 = On) - in Shift Mode, the scaling of the Delay and Hold parameters (using Attack and Decay knobs) is now correct. - Changed rootnote for all "kb amount" (key tracking) type params to 60 (was 48, manual says 60) - Added handling of MIDI Sustain Pedal, Legato Pedal (MIDI CC# 64, 68; 0 = Off, 64 = On). Legato pedal CC overrides Multi-Trigger mode on envelopes: if envelopes are Multi-triger and legato pedal is ON, then envelopes behave as single-trigger. No effect if envelopes already single-trigger. - Corrected handling of Note Priority MIDI CC (CC# 111) per the manual. - Mixer Level controls changed from linear to audio taper, for less overdrive at lower settings. - Added panic / all-notes-off function: press & hold both KB octave buttons to kill stuck notes. - Wider center detent on Fine Tune knob - Parameter smoothing applied to Filter Cutoff MIDI CC, and MIDI Chanel Pressure controls, for smooth, step-free filter automation. - Fixed integer truncation error in "velocity to eg time" parameters (was clipped to 4 values before!) also re-scaled maximum to 10x panel time - Saving presets on the hardware adds a tilde (~) after preset name, to indicate changes made since preset was named in Editor. - Filter KB Amount no longer interacts with Fine Tune. - Filter Cutoff could become unresponsive due to MIDI error; fixed. - Global note priority bug fixed. - Relative pot mode improvements. - bug fix: Legato Glide when Local Control is turned off. - Panel Active mode no longer inherits hidden parameters from the last-used preset (a confusing bug in v1.0) - now the Active Panel sound is its own "preset" with persistent hidden settings. - Maximum-volume on boot bug fixed. - Mod Wheel value on boot is now correct. (Real wheel value if "Preset Mod Wheel" is OFF) - "Gate Reset" parameters now trigger correctly in Local Off mode. 08-07-2013 azg
